so, as much as I love tumblr, I have to bid farewell for the next few months as I am leaving for Mexico by bike. My bags are packed and bike loaded up and everything’s set to go. I’m leaving thursday and it feels so close and yet oh so far away. If you want to follow my journeys, feel free to check out
I’ll be posting on there because of the nifty additive of google latitude which makes you able to track my journey step by step, check in by check in. Check it out and I hope you enjoy the read. :)
It’s getting close to go time. I pretty much have everything that I need (minus the bike to make the trip which is really only a small detail-hehe) Here’s roughly what I’m planning on taking with me in case you ever think of taking a trip like this:
2-3 pairs of cycling bib shorts,
3 cycling jerseys
1 pair of zip off rain pants
1 rain jacket
1 pair of TOMS
4 pairs of socks
2 pairs of underwear(in case you didn’t know, you don’t wear underwear with cycling shorts)
1 wool sweat shirt
1 pair of leggings or tights
emergency blanket(space blanket what what!!!)
long finger gloves
1 plate and bowl set with silverware
2 water bottles and camelback(100oz bladder)
1 pack towel (dries fast and is super packable!!)
all them maps!! (adventure cycling is pretty much amazing)
4 quick links
1 patch kit
1 chain tool
1 spoke wrench
1 adjustable wrench
1 hand pump(Topeak Road Morph is baller!!!!)
Solio Solar Powered Charger (best birthday present ever-thanks Marie!)
phone (gotta get that gps, keep the facebooking going and keep tumbling!)
I think you get a rough idea of everything that you have to consider. Actually that’s a bit more than just a rough idea, it’s pretty great. :)
I also kind of want to get a gameboy with all of the pokemon games for it so I can get them all…. I heard you have to….. ;)
As I heard from Lauren who heard this from someone she met on her travels, you need to take one ridiculous luxury item with you when doing long distance, extended time touring. I think that will be mine. Let me know if you think I should take anything else with me!
So, as a lot of you already know, I’m not riding cross country this summer. I’m working my ass off trying to make some money. Working at the hotel, working at Paradise Garage(the best bike shop ever!) and pedicabbing. Gotta make that money!
Here’s the plan so far, buy a new bike that can handle a trip down to Mexico, get a solar powered phone charger, buy the maps to get down there, get a tent that doesn’t weigh 5 pounds, save money and ride down to Mexico in a period of a couple months (more than doable in that time frame but I’m giving myself enough time to enjoy myself) I’m not sure if anyone else is going with me yet but whether I’m going by myself or find people along the way, I know I’m doing this. No better time than now. I just know that if I don’t do this, I’ll never do this.
Money isn’t an issue, time isn’t an issue. The only issue is getting the bike up and running for such an endeavor.
Keep the bike balanced good, keep the pedals turning, think about nothing except right now in this moment and there is nowhere you can’t go.

This was the cover of the USA Today newspaper today. Talk about a joke! It shows me how much they’re really just a comic book and not a legit newspaper.
Monday night ride 1/31/11. Crazy night. Garage climbs, rock climbing wall and raining ice onto the frozen ground. Everyone fell at least once. I fell 3 times. On the last fall, I broke the latch on my pearl Izumi right spd shoe. Good night ended with being covered in ice that froze to my front on the 2 mile ride home from the bar.
